Tarantella backs SuSE and Red Hat

Used to be called SCO, remember?

Just when it appeared that the SCO-Novell-SuSE ménage a trois couldn't get any more messy, Tarantella- the company formerly known as SCO - has unveiled platform support for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server in its remote application access offering.

Tarantella, named after its flagship web-based remote access product, came into being as a company in its own right after selling its SCO operating system division to Caldera Systems in 2001.

In a move totally unrelated to all the legal shenanigans going on between SCO and Novell as the former threatens to block the latter's acquisition of SuSE Linux, the firm yesterday trumpeted support for both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SuSE in its latest product release, Tarantella Enterprise 3 version 3.4.

Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is designed to allow companies to consolidate the deployment and management of applications from a secure centralised console by providing Web-based access to applications, desktops or information across multiple platforms and devices.

The company, which has always listed Linux as an installation platform for its Enterprise 3 software, said that the additional support for SuSE and Red Hat had been provided in response to a "growing demand" for Linux in the enterprise.

In addition to the new platform support, the latest 3.4 release also boasts Universal PDF printing, security enhancements, broader network compatibility and TrueColor support for 24 Bit Colour Windows applications.
