Pan-European ISP Tiscali reported that the take-up of broadband is accelerating and as a result it has upped its prediction for the number of high speed Net users it expects to have at year-end by 50,000.

Reporting Q3 results today, the ISP revealed that it now has more than 600,000 broadband punters, with numbers growing on average by around 11,000 a week.

Reviewing its year-end target, it now reckons it will exceed 800,000 ADSL users by the end of the year.

The rise in broadband numbers offset the slower growth in the number of narrowband users, and the amount of time they spent online, the company said in a statement.

Thanks to broadband, revenues for Q3 were up 24 per cent from €180 million in Q3 2002 to €222 million this year.

Earnings before interest etc (EBITDA) was €14.1 million - an improvement on the €3.7 million EBITDA loss posted during the same quarter last year. ®
