Micron has begun sampling 400MHz 288Mb Reduced Latency DRAM (RLDRAM) II chips, the company said yesterday.

Aimed more at communications, networking and data storage applications than performance PCs, RLDRAM II provides high speed access and up to 28.8Gbps of bandwidth, based on a 36-bit interface and the 400MHz memory clock.

RLDRAM II mandates on-die termination, multiplexed or non-multiplexed addressing, on-chip delay lock loop, common and separate I/O, programmable output impedance and a power-efficient 1.8V core.

The technology was developed by Germany's Infineon and Micron. The US company's part offers a latency of 20ns, it said.

RLDRAM II devices are available in a standard 144-ball FBGA, 1.1 x 1.9cm package for backward compatibility and to enable multiple vendor support. ®
