Virgin.net has cut the up-front cost of signing up for ADSL with the launch of a new promo offer.

The cost of its Broadband Starter Kit - which includes a Thomson Speedtouch 330 DSL modem, 2 micro filters and a set-up guide - has been cut from £49.99 to £24.99.

The offer from Virgin.net - a joint venture between the Virgin Group and cableco NTL - is available until the end of the year.

Elsewhere, Sheffield-based PlusNet is gearing up to supply a 1Mb ADSL service from October 6. The ISP is currently taking pre-orders for its Home 1Mb service, which will cost from £34.99 a month.

And Bulldog Communications is also tempting punters to sign up to its 1 Mb service by shaving off £47 from the annual cost of its PrimeTime 1000 product.

Punters signing up to PrimeTime 1000 before the end of September can get the monthly fees reduced to £23.49 (inc VAT) from £29.36. ®
