ATI introduced its latest workstation-oriented FireGL cards today, the X2-256 and the T2-128.

The former is based on the Radeon 9800 Pro core - branded the FGL9800 in this case - and comes equipped with 256MB of DDR video memory and twin DVI-I interfaces. The card's graphics chip provides eight parallel rendering pipelines and four parallel geometry engines, along with ATI's latest programmable vertex and pixel shader technologies.

The T2-128 ships with 128MB of DDR and is based on the FGL 9600, aka the Radeon 9600 Pro - ie. its got four parallel rendering pipelines and two parallel geometry pipelines. It too offers dual display support, but through a single DVI-I connector and a VGA port.

The T2-128 costs $379 - rather less than the X2-256's price tag of $999. The T2-128 is available immediately through system integrators and resellers. The X2-256 can be ordered today and will be available for shipment in mid August. ®
