Momentum builds for E3 launch of Nvidia NV35
Looking more likely
Evidence continues to accumulate that Nvidia will launch its NV35 chip at the E3 games industry show next month.
As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Nvidia is down on the E3 list of exhibitors who will be announcing new product. Nvidia's entry on the exhibitor list sports a 'First Looks' logo, which means "this exhibitor plans on debuting one or more products at their E3 booth".
Since then we've been asked by an Nvidia spokeswoman whether we would be attending E3. No, we said, why do you ask? Because the company is gearing up for a very big presence at the show, in itself highly suggestive that Nvidia will be doing more than showcasing recent releases such as the GeForce FX 5800.
And today DigiTimes claims that Nvidia will indeed launch NV35 at E3, though it offers no evidence to substantiate the claim.
However, it does cite sources who say the part uses the same core as the GeForce FX 5800 (NV30), tweaked to offer better performance and support DDR memory rather than DDR 2, which the 5800 uses. NV35 will be fabbed at 0.13 micron by TSMC, the site's sources also claim.
E3 will be held in Los Angeles between 14 and 16 May. ®
