Intel has officially released the 3.06GHz Xeon processor despite shipping the chip to system vendors some time ago.

Dell, for one, began offering Precision 450 and 650 workstations based on the part back in February. HP, too, in the xw6000 and xw8000 workstations.

In addition to the 3.06GHz part, there's a 3.0GHz version. Both contain 512KB of on-die L2 cache. What differentiates them - apart from the 60MHz, of course - is frontside bus speed: 533MHz for the 3.06GHz chip, 400MHz for the other.

The 3.06GHz Xeon works with Intel's E7501 and E7505 chipsets, while the 3.0GHz part is designed for the E7500 and 860 chipsets.

Intel’s suggested list prices for the two CPUs are $722 and $658, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities. ®
