Forget Hornby train sets and Eminem CDs - it seems the favourite item on Christmas wish lists this year is broadband.

So says ISP, Zen Internet, which claims its sources at the North Pole report that broadband is proving to be a popular item on Christmas shopping lists.

O'Really...?

Anyhow, if BT has got round to enabling the local exchange at the North Pole for ADSL, good news - Zen is halving the activation charge for its ADSL products.

From midday tomorrow (Friday 20 December), the activation charge for the ZenADSL Home and Office range of Broadband services will be cut from £50 to £25 plus VAT - which works out at £29.38 inc VAT.

Another ISP - Nildram - is also cutting the cost of its set-up fee. From January 6, all orders for both the 'Home' and 'Office' services will also have the set-up fee halved to £25 plus VAT - £29.38 inc VAT. This offer is valid for three months.

Last week BT Wholesale announced it was offering ISPs half price broadband connections as part of a limited promotion early next year.

The activation charge for the bog standard BT IPStream Home product will be cut from £50 to £25. While the charge for business broadband services in the BT IPStream S range will also be halved from £260 to £130.

The offer will run from January 10 until the end of March. ®
