Sun demolishes Dotcom Builder

Who tore the dot out of dotcom?

Sun Microsystems is 'retiring' its Dot-Com Builder website.
Killing it, more like: the site shuts on December 23 and content is to be divvied up between other Sun developer web sites. Links to the old site are maintained through the Wayback Machine

This otherwise mundane piece of housekeeping resonates with a certain symbolism. For Sun Microsystems was the server supplier of the dotcom years. It wrapped itself in dotcom sloganeering - "We put the dot in dotcom", a mantra dropped when the bubble burst. Some found the slogan meaningful, including a UK educational website, which "inspired by Sun's 'dot in dotcom campaign'... came up with the character Miss Dorothy Com", star of her very own cartoons aimed at 7-11 year-olds.

Today you can find Dorothy 'Dot' Com online here. ®
