NTL continues to dominate broadband numbers in the UK gaining 105,000 new customers during the summer.

Publishing its Q3 results today the cableco reports that at the end of September it had 380,600 broadband customers.

In comparison, Telewest added 39,000 new broadband customers during the summer taking its overall subscriber base to 216,000 at the end of September.

Close behind was BTopenworld - the ISP division of dominant telco BT - which reported that it had 213,000 broadband subscribers at the end of September.

However, while broadband subscribers are on the rise at NTL, the cableco continues to shed other customers of its TV, phone and Internet business. Last quarter it managed to lose 113,000 punters, although this was offset in part with the addition of 84,000 new subscribers.

For the three months to the end of September the company generated £617m in revenues, down from the £652m generated in the same period last year.

Despite the fall in revenue EBITDA (earnings before interest, etc) rose from £132m last year to £182m in Q3 2002.

The debt-laden company also confirmed it is to cull a further 250 jobs as it gets ready to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month. ®
