Telewest broadband has launched a promo offer to appeal to online gamers.

Its blueyonder gaming package gives punters broadband cable access plus subscription to its gaming service. The offer costs from £35 a month, depending on whether you're an existing Telewest punter.

Oh, and if you subscribe to the service before 23 August you get the £50 installation fee waived.

According to Murray Hume, business manager for blueyonder multiplayer gaming: "You haven't really experienced the full benefit of your PC games until you’ve ventured online and tested your skills against your fellow player."

Is that so?

Elsewhere, One.Tel is offering a free modem and connection for 750 new subscribers to its broadband service.

To qualify for the £160 offer punters have to sign up via One.Tel's new online registration service.

Apparently, the online sign-up does away with the need to physically sign contracts, and also runs a line check on customers' phone lines to determine whether they can hook up to broadband.

The One.Tel promo runs until Friday 19th July. ®
