Symantec Corp has introduced a new line in volume licensing as an incentive for organizations to make volume purchases in return for discounted prices on its Norton, pcAnywhere and WinFaxPro lines of security software.

Symantec's Security License Program offers two volume license options. Its so-called Value Program is a certificate-based, one-time purchase plan targeted at smaller companies operating within a single country and requiring as few as one server or 10 desktop licenses. Cupertino, California-based Symantec said it or a reseller would issue a certificate authorizing one copy to be made for each perpetual use licence purchased.

For larger organizations, the vendor's Elite Program offers the choice of two purchasing options. The option dubbed Commit aims to maximize two-year volume discounts with an up-front purchase commitment, while the alternative Forecast option is intended to reduce up-front capital outlay by requiring an initial purchase of 25% of a two-year forecast.

Coupled with the Elite scheme is a gold maintenance and support program offering upgrade insurance, security content updates and 24x7 web and toll-free telephone support during standard business hours. Products that can be purchased through the schemes include Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Norton Ghost Corporate Edition, Norton SpeedDisk, pcAnywhere, Norton Utilities, and WinFax Pro.

For a small additional fee, an upgrade insurance premium can be added to a volume purchases so that licenses can be upgraded for free whenever Symantec releases a full-version upgrade of any purchased product. All Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition products automatically include 12 months of upgrade insurance to provide for regular virus definition updates.
