Actebis, the German-owned PC components distributors, is to withdraw from making desktop and server PCs.

The company says that its diversification into own-label PC building - it sells under the Peacock and Targa brands - has not been unsuccessful. By contrast, own-label notebooks and monitors - it imports more than a million a year of the latter - are holding up well. And it intends to continue its own-label strategy in these segment.

In a corporate profile posted on one of Actebis' English-language web sites, the company says: "In Dresden, Actebis will assemble more than one million PCs this year... Well-known market research institutes position Actebis already among the top-ten manufacturers in Europe."

Actebis's German holding company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Otto Versand, the German mail-order giant. ®
