Microsoft Corp this week used the Milia 2002 entertainment trade show in Cannes, France to announce two interactive TV deals aimed at persuading developers to adopt its Microsoft TV platform.

The company will work with Macromedia Inc to offer developers discounts and support when designing Flash graphics for iTV projects. The companies said paid-up members of the Microsoft TV Developer Program will get 15 per cent off Flash 5 for the next four weeks, as well as best practice guides, tutorials and online community support.

Separately, Microsoft said it is working with Portugal-based set-top developer Novabase SA on a software development kit. The companies said the Sagreskit will make it easier for developers to build iTV services based on Microsoft TV and Novabase's OctalTV set-tops.

The SDK includes a customizable interface, FTP software, and the usual support documentation. Microsoft said Sagreskit supports Microsoft TV Advanced 1.5 when running on the OctalTV STB5005 and STB6005 set-top boxes. The software is free to paid-up Microsoft TV developers.
