Mobile operator One2One is to make 900 UK staff (out of 7,000) redundant, citing a slowdown in the market.

The staff cuts include voluntary and involuntary redundancies but apart from that, the company is giving previous little information about where the cuts will be, what the terms of redundancy are and the amount it expects to save from the measure.

Here is the internal One2One memo sent to staff and leaked to us today. One2One confirms the memo is genuine.

The company says the job cuts are not a cost-saving plan but simply a "refocussing of resources".

Last month, competitor Vodafone announced redundancies for 650 UK staff. And mmO2 is also cutting jobs across Europe.

One2One will soon change its name to T-Mobile to tie in with its parent company's mobile arm across Europe. ®
