AMD yesterday confirmed its sales outlook for the current quarter.

Jerry Sanders, Chairman and CEO, told analysts that sales will range from flat to high single-digit percentage growth, on the back of record sales of PC processors. So the state of play is unchanged from October 17, when the company announced its Q3 results.

However, Sanders issued a note of caution about Q1 next year, pointing out that processor sales "could retreat somewhat" because of seasonal patterns in the PC industry.

The outlook for flash memory is uncertain, and price competition remains fierce. This will delay the company's return to profitability until Q2, 2002. But operating cost improvements and new products will lead to a profitable year in 2002 overall, he said.

Sanders was speaking at the annual AMD fall analyst conference. ®
