Apple upgrades iBook to 600MHz
More RAM, bigger HDD too

Apple has confirmed last week's reports from resellers than an updated iBook was on the way: it has announced a 600MHz version of the consumer notebook.
The new model also features 128MB of memory and a faster, 100MHz system bus. It's available in two incarnations, one with a 15GB hard drive and DVD-ROM unit, the other with a 20GB HDD and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. Both machines contain 256KB of L2 cache built into the processor, a G3-class PowerPC 750CXe.
A larger, 30GB hard drive and a CD-RW option will both be made available through Apple's build-to-order service. Prices for the standard models start at $1299 in the US. In the UK, The 500MHz iBook 500 MHz cost £1099 (inc VAT). The 600MHz version with a DVD-ROM drive costs £1299 (inc VAT) - with a DVD-ROM/CD-RW "Combo" drive, it costs £1499 (inc. VAT). ®
