UK distributor Logitek has gone into administration.

The Manchester office of insolvency firm PKF has been appointed to handle the situation. PKF went into Logitek's offices yesterday afternoon to take control.

Three parts of the Logitek group are affected - Logitek Distribution, Logitek Telecommunications, and Langtree Industries, the holding company. The dealership part of business Vitec Communications is going to be kept trading. The group is based in Standish, Lancashire.

Bernie Wheaton, Logitek Distribution's MD of 12 years, resigned in August, as did Vitec's MD Kevin Howarth. Logitek's Chairman, Robert Adams was still acting as MD of Logitek Distribution yesterday.

Logitek was hit with a writ from 3Com claiming Logitek hadn't paid £1 million in invoices from December 1999 to September 2000. Fraud allegations were also made in the writ which was filed in November 2000 but not made public until April 2001. Logitek made a counter-claim but things seemed to have been settled out of court in May 2001. However the original 3Com claim had been due to be heard on 15 October.

Logitek sold Wyse, Perle, and Symbol products. Vitec sells Compaq, HP, and Cisco. ®
