BTopenworld has finally announced it is to cut the cost of ADSL installations following BT Wholesale's decision to halve the cost of installing broadband for three months from October 1.

The price cuts affect BTopenworld's Home500, Business500 and Business 500+ services and will reduce the cost of ADSL installation to £75 for USB users.

BTopenworld said its monthly rental charge for ADSL services would remain unchanged.

Earlier this month a number of ISPs including Nildram, Pipex, PlusNet and Zen all said they would pass on the savings in the cost of installing ADSL.

In a separate announcement, BTopenworld said it would be launching a multi-million pound advertising campaign to promote ADSL for both business and consumers.

It also said it is to consolidate its BTinternet and BTopenworld brands under the openwoe brand.

The new enlarged brand will have 1.5 million dial-up and broadband customers, the customers said.

In a statement Andy Green, CEO of BTopenworld, said: "Consolidating under one brand name shows our belief in the BTopenworld name as we look forward to the future of the Internet."

On Friday BT announced that Green is to replace Alfred Mockett as CEO of BT Ignite in November. No replacement has bee announced for the top job at BTopenworld. ®
