Budget Notebook

Review Rock is best known for offering speedy performance at a competitive price. The Agenda Si breaks with this tradition, but with this expensive price tag comes a top-notch specification, and it's well worth a look as a serious desktop replacement.

While the 1GHz Pentium III processor is only average, the 384MB of RAM isn't. The Si also boasts the most storage in this price category, with a 30GB hard drive. Sadly, it only mustered a WorldBench 2000 score of 140.

Rock Agenda SiAt 3.4kg the Agenda is hefty, but this does give it a robust feel. The weight comes partly from the 15in TFT screen, which, while nice and large, makes the lid overhang the rest of the unit. Graphics are provided by an integrated SIS chip, which can be allocated up to 32MB of shared memory.

The notebook features the usual array of ports, plus two free PC Card slots, but there are no futureproofing extras such as FireWire, Bluetooth or wireless LAN, so if you need any of these features, you'll have to pay extra to add them on.

The Agenda Si is a budget-priced notebook with a power spec. The memory and hard drive are more than generous and give many higher-priced notebooks a run for their money. While these benefits don't produce a fitting WorldBench 2000 score, they'll certainly up the ante in the marketplace. ®
