Will Steve Jobs announce new multi-processor Power Mac servers at AppleExpo Paris on 26 September?

It certainly looks that way. The UK version of Apple's online store is currentlty offering only 533MHz single-processor machines fitted out in the old Graphite Power Mac shell - the dual-CPU boxes have gone. The US AppleStore tells the same story.

It's about time Apple replaced the old Graphite servers with machines based on the newer and faster Quicksilver Power Macs, in 733MHz uni-processor and 800MHz dual-processor forms.

Such a move would, of course, allow Jobs to unveil new hardware at the show without... well... announcing new hardware - if you see what we mean - as he promised in a press release a week or so back. That goes double if his lieutenant, marketing chief Phil Schiller, unveils the servers at Seybold a couple of days before on the 24th.

In addition to the old servers' absence on the UK and US AppleStores, we hear that a number of UK resellers have said that new boxes are due to ship on 26 September, the day of Jobs' AppleExpo keynote. ®
