Fuji Xerox is to buy NEC's laser printer business at the end of September.

Fuji Xerox is to pay around 20 billion yen ($166 billion) for all outstanding shares in NEC Niigata - the company that runs the laser printer business, Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports, via Asiabiztech.

The move will hoist Fuji Xerox's share of the Japanese domestic market for laser printers from three per cent to thirteen per cent.

The printers will still sport the NEC brand name, while Fuji Xerox will continue to use NEC's sales channels to sell the printers as extras with NEC computers.

In the future, the outfit will also produce Fuji Xerox-branded printers. ®
