Apple is to once again attend a UK Mac show, having at last signed itself up for this year's MacExpo.

It's been some time since Apple last exhibited here in the UK - 1997 to be precise. Since then it has promised to attend various shows, including one of its own devising, but has always pulled out at the eleventh hour. Last year, it said it would be focusing its exhibition efforts on Apple Expo Paris.

Indeed, this year CEO Steve Jobs will again keynote the French show, though as a terse press release pointed out today, his talk will "focus on Mac OS X 10.1... and iDVD 2 software" - so we can, as usual, expect a repeat of July's Macworld Expo New York keynote. There's a chance Mac OS X 10.1 will be shipping by 26 September, the start of the Paris show, however.

Adds Jobs' speech writer: "This has been an incredible new product year for Apple, so we don't plan to launch any new hardware products in Paris this year."

That should quell any speculation that Apple might use the Paris keynote to launch its anticipated next-generation iMac. Had there been any, of course.

If past events are anything to go by, don't expect anything new at MacExpo either. But that shouldn't diminish from the coup of getting Apple to agree to come along in November. Apple's support for the show hasn't been in question since it finally allowed organiser Bob Denton to use the 'Mac' name. However, attending is a sign that Apple is serious about the UK market and perhaps no longer sees it as just another European territory. ®
