Canadian police are under investigation for allegedly using government computers to swap porn and crime-scene pics.

The inquiry involves more than 60 police officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) force, including both uniformed and civilian members, today's Toronto Sun reports.

The force's north-eastern offices are the focus, where officers work with ministry officials.

The probe is being run parallel to a provincial government investigation, which resulted in six workers at the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) being sacked and 187 others getting reprimands.

"Many of our officers work very closely with conservation officers and other members of the MNR - joint boat patrols, marine patrols - so there's a close working relationship," said OPP Superintendent Rick Kotwa.

This would include the two sets of officers using police and government computer networks to correspond.

The MNR investigation unearthed emails containing sexually explicit material and inappropriate jokes.

A source told the Toronto Sun that some of the pictures being sent were photos of crime scenes with racist comments attached.

Kotwa hopes the investigation will be over within the next month. ®
