Employees demonstrate outside WorldOnline offices
A lesson in how to handle staff redundancies
Disgruntled LineOne employees held an impromptu demonstration outside the London offices of World Online today over a dispute about their redundancy package.
According to reports, seven or eight former LineOne employees were joined by a union representative for a meeting with WorldOnline's human resources department.
However, after they were refused entry they became more vocal.
One eyewitness said: "It all got a bit nasty."
It appears those involved wanted to discuss an alleged cock-up about their entitlement to redundancy pay. It seems they were offered twice as much as others by mistake but on realising the error, their package was reduced in line with everyone else.
No one from LineOne, WorldOnline was available for comment.
A spokeswoman for Tiscali UK said: "No comment."
Elsewhere, in the latest missive sent out to staff at Tiscali UK those in charge have already signalled their intent to forget the sweeping cull that has decimated up to 300 jobs.
The latest "Integration Update reads: "The Executive Team recognise that the departure of many of our colleagues, and the continued moves, will make the next few weeks awkward for a number of you. But it is important that we also start to look to the future - a future working with new colleagues to meet the expectations of our customers and outsmart our competitors."
By 'eck, that's bound to stir the troops.
WorldOnline, LineOne are both part of Tiscali's new operation in the UK. ®
