April was a record month for dotcom job losses.

In the US, 17,554 Net workers got canned this month. The previous record was back in January when 12,828 workers got shown the door.

The figures come from US recruitment firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas. It seems to have ruled out anyone losing their job today, probably because Friday is the best day for lay-offs, so if you kept your job through 27 April, you'll probably be a May statistic.

The dotcom job culling had been in decline through February and March, but leaped 84 per cent in April. The total number of jobs lost since the start of 2001 is 51,564. Internet technology firms and financial services operations were the sectors with the most job casualties. ®
