Miss France or Mr Snip?
Miss Universe competition shaken by Internet rumours
Internet rumours concerning the genetic sex of a Miss Universe contestant have led officials to take a peek at Miss France to make sure she has all the right bits. That's their excuse anyway.
French Internet reports suggested that 19-year-old Elodie Gosuin had been born a bloke and had undergone a sex change operation while a nurse. Incredibly, the organisers appear to have taken them seriously enough to insist on a quick check of Ms/Mr Gousin's assets.
There was a "close inspection" while she had on her swimsuit and he, sorry, she also signed a declaration that promised: "I have never been a man." The organisers seem satisfied and claim that no medical tests are necessary.
We're not so sure. If you caught any man young enough, with modern medicine, you could make a pretty convincing woman, bumps an' all. While a gynaecological examination may be pushing things a little too far, we would like to supply the Miss Universe competition with our own foolproof method of working out whether she is really a man.
