CyberNanny Web site defaced with obscenities

Internet filtering firm reacts slowly to swearing on its own site

The Web site of a firm which provides Internet filtering software has been defaced with a string of obscenities.

CyberNanny's site was defaced by a hacker called Hackweiser yesterday, but still features a prominent notice stating that it has been compromised and its admins "may be 'trying' to figure out what the fuck has happened to their site".

The defacement, one of a string the site has suffered, has been recorded on Alldas.de and can be seen here.

Of course the big question is why the site's administrators have not noticed the graffiti sprayed on their site, which use Apache on a FreeBSD platform. Perhaps CyberNanny's software is preventing them accessing their own site because of the obscenities now plastered all over it.

Or perhaps the firm is slow to react. After our recent run in with SurfControl, which decided to block the Register after we wrote a story about a firm that released software designed to bypass filtering software, we've been more than sceptical about the procedures in place at such firms.

CyberNanny's apparent blissful ignorance of four letter words on its own site hardly fills us with confidence that it's effective at quickly acting to block "inappropriate material" from reaching its customers... ®
