Letters Matthew Weigel is a bitter, bitter man. And with good reason:

I think that your analysis of e-mail, and why it is the Devil's tool, is a little lacking.

While it can not be argued that Women Dumping Men Via E-mail is a dirty, nasty, evil thing to do - and I say this with the experience of receiving a "To: John" message 30 minutes before meeting an immediately ex-girlfriend for lunch (I suppose so that lunch would not be ruined by a nasty breakup, but instead by a nasty fight discussing the nasty breakup) - I am not inclined to blame something as innocent, and genuinely useful, as e-mail for this horrible practice.

I think it is clear that the real problem is that Women Are From The Devil. This can be argued on many levels, but it suffices to argue that women were writing "Dear John" letters long before e-mail, and simply kept current with the times by moving to "To: John" Messages.

While this argument is sufficient, I think it is also worth mentioning that prior to e-mail women were quite happy dumping men via voice message, that is, calling the man when she knew he was gone. E-mail simply represents the next level of convenience for the Devil's tools.

Absolutely, you give 'em the vote, you educate 'em, you buy flowers on their birthday, and how do they repay you? They dump you. Women, eh?
