The Register is backing Sir Peter Bonfield's decision to stay put amid mounting pressure for BT's CEO to resign.

In this time of crisis for Sir Peter, we're sure such support will come as a real comfort.

After all, being at the helm when his company racked up £30 billion in debt while the share price dropped by more than two thirds takes some doing. It's certainly something to tell the grandchildren...

Anyhow, we're sure all this nonsense will blow over soon enough. Before you know it everyone will have forgotten about all this and Sir Peter can carry on as head of BT until he draws his pension.

Unfortunately, The Register's vocal support for Sir Peter has done little to ease City fears. By late morning shares had toppled again suppor 21.5p (4.35 per cent) to 472.5p. ®
