HWRoundup Greetings, after a while, to Bill Henning at CPU Review and to a new memory benchmark which, he promises will really give those sub-systems a good pasting. He promises results from testing Rambus and DDR systems real soon now.

Over at Tom's Hardware, there's the second part of an article on CPU scaling. This one looks at the Pentium III with the site asking whether this chip is now a golden oldie. No, says the article. Indeed, why upgrade to a Pentium 4 when SDRAM is so cheap and cheerful right now, suggests the piece. The trouble is, Intel has proclaimed that the Pentium III is no hot shakes compared to its lovely lovely Pentium 4. Tom's HW suggests that the buyer has got to beware of upgrade mania, a type of collective madness that Intel itself loves.

At the Tech Report site, there's a piece on how well PDAs (practically dumb appliances) equipped with USB (unusual serial bus) perform in practice (PIP).

And wibbling to Sharky Extreme there's a review of a Dell Inspiron 2100, which uses a 700MHz mobile Intel chipolata.

Barbara Rockefeller (great name, great building) acts like a solicitous nurse and takes Rambus' pulse and checks its vital signs at this interesting page here. Check out the Chande Momentum Indicator. [Wossat, Ed?]

Overclocker's Workbench has got an Asus DDR mobo working at this place on the World Wide Ebb.

To overclock or not overclock the Via KT133 chipset. That is the question that staff at the Boy Wonder's site are asking.

Dean Kent, at Realworldtech posts an article about the power consumption of double data rate (DDR) memory compared to synchronous memory (SDRAM). The legal consumption of this type of memory is, of course, causing an awful bandwidth problem right now.
