Over at Tom's Hardware, there's the second part of an article on CPU scaling. This one looks at the Pentium III with the site asking whether this chip is now a golden oldie. No, says the article. Indeed, why upgrade to a Pentium 4 when SDRAM is so cheap and cheerful right now, suggests the piece. The trouble is, Intel has proclaimed that the Pentium III is no hot shakes compared to its lovely lovely Pentium 4. Tom's HW suggests that the buyer has got to beware of upgrade mania, a type of collective madness that Intel itself loves.
