Tiny has finally got round to revealing what its big time consumer product is. This is the device that will save it from the ravages of the skinny-margin retail PC business.
It's called the Tiny Takami - Takami means 'excellent idea' in Japanese - and it's a "TV, video recorder, hi-fi with jukebox, CD player, DVD player, PC, gaming console, Internet, e-mail facility and MP3 player, all in one small silver box."
All this is possible already with an upgraded PC (eg. using a hard drive for digital VHS) but if the specs/price ratio is good it might be a goer. The old PC/TV idea didn't fly back around 1996/97 but its time might be now.
An entry level Tiny Takami, complete with wireless keyboard, remote control and stereo speakers costs £999 (inc VAT) and this can be upgraded with a 15" LCD screen for £1499 (inc VAT).
If you've got your La-Z-boy recliner and a lot of wedge you can go for a 42" gas plasma screen and a DTS home theatre sound system model for £6999 (inc VAT)
The box is being shown off at the Ideal Home Exhibition at London's Earls Court from tomorrow. We should get a few more details about the technical specs then. ®
