Specialist Computer Holdings (SCH) has emerged once again as the likely buyer for a chunk of rival UK reseller Compel.

The Birmingham outfit is due to acquire Compel's desktop business, UK channel mag Microscope reported. An announcement is expected as early as tomorrow, when Compel is due to report its interim results.

Compel and SCH were today saying nothing about any deal.

At one point last year it was a toss up between Computacenter and SCH over who would swallow Compel whole - Computacenter made an informal cash offer for the company, which was rejected by the Compel board.

Meanwhile, SCH was busy snapping up Compel shares, and ammassed around an eleven per cent stake in the company. This seemingly left it free to attack at its leisure.

Compel's share price today rose 13 per cent to £ 114.5, valuing the entire company at £ 35.56 million. ®
