Gateway has untethered a Pentium 4 desktop in the UK.

The Performance 1400 PC is priced at £1369 ex VAT, and comes with an Intel 1.4GHz P4 chip, 128MB memory, 20GB hard drive, 32MB video card, SoundBlaster Live! sound card, Windows Millennium and Works Suite 2000, and a 17in monitor. The systems also come pre-configured with Web access from gateway.net and are shipping from today.

The 1400 is the top end of Gateway's range of Performance PCs available in the UK. It also offers Performance systems based on PIIIs at 1GHz and 866MHz.

Gateway is one of the many IT giants to have issued a revenue warning in the past couple of weeks. Last week it warned it would not meet analysts' forecasts for Q4 due to droopy sales over the Thanksgiving weekend. The PC maker expects to record revenue of $2.55 billion - a full half a billion below previously expected figures. ®
