Palm has effectively settled its tussle with British Palm-oriented Web site owner Dominic Hulewicz over the ownership of MyPalm.com.

Hulewicz said yesterday he and Palm had almost reached an agreement to share the domain name. The Brit will get to retain it for his email - which is what he registered it for in the first place - while Palm will use URL for its portal site.

"We are delighted to be moving toward a happy agreement," a Palm spokeswoman said, according to CNet.

That marks a major step back from the company's earlier stance. Last week, Palm was branding Hulewicz a cybersquatter and was threatening him with all kinds of legal action if he refused to hand over his domain name.

"I have never attempted to sell my domain name or solicit any offers for it, so I am stunned that I should be accused of being a cybersquatter when I registered my name 11 months before Palm announced their portal name," he told The Register last week.

Hulewicz had registered the name MyPalm.com for his Internet consultancy, Intanet Communications, and has used it almost exclusively for his email address, he said.

Users pointing their browsers at www.mypalm.com are now being redirected to my.palm.com - Palm's chosen name for its handheld-oriented portal. It apparently only became interested in mypalm.com when it realised some surfers might forget the single dot that distinguishes its URL from Hulewicz'. ®
