The millionaire pop mogul Jonathan King - you know, the one with the annoying voice, glasses and T-shirts - has been charged with three sex offences committed nearly 30 years ago. The allegations are thought to concern young men under the age of consent and occurred when King was a high-profile figure in the music and entertainment world.

The charges follow a raid on King's house in Bayswater, London where his computer and a number of videos were seized as evidence. King was arrested after an investigation running over several months by the Serious Sex Offenders Unit.

King has put out a statement through his PR in which he denies his guilt. "I categorically deny these absurd allegations about events from 28 years ago and I have great faith that the British legal system will vindicate me," he said. He has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear in Staines magistrates' court on 30 November.

King first came to prominence with hit song Everyone's Gone to the Moon, which he wrote as a 21-year-old undergraduate. By 22, he was MD of Decca records. He then made his fortune and secured the lifelong hatred of true music fans by naming and promoting pop group Genesis. ®
