More than half of all secondary school teachers in Britain have their own email addresses, according to figures just released by the Government.

Make no mistake - that's a massive rise if you think that in 1998 just nine per cent had email.

The Government wants 75 per cent of teachers to be online by 2002.

Launching a raft of new Internet services for teachers Minister for School Standards, Estelle Morris, said new technology can help make teachers' working lives simpler and more effective. ®
