ISP to prosecute system ‘abusers’

The Free Internet Group (FIG) is prepared to prosecute individuals if they abuse the ISP's 24/7 flat-fee Net access.
The company said it was suffering a growing trend of "blatant abuse" from people using the service for commercial activities.
According to an email sent to members, FIG's directors are determined to "stamp out this unethical use of the 0800 service".
Anyone caught using the service as part of a commercial enterprise will have their contract terminated.
"No refunds will be forthcoming and, criminal prosecutions for theft in lieu of charges for telephone airtime obtained fraudulently may be instigated where commercial usage is established," warned FIG.
Lister Park, MD of FIG, told The Reg that there were "clear cases of system abuse" and that he would not stand for it.
But he added: "I'm not trying to hurt Joe Public."
Last month FIG increased the cost of its 24/7 unmetered Net access service from £50 a year to £89.99. ®
