Gameplay.com - the British-based games portal - today reported revenues of £23.2 million for the full year to July. Its preliminary results showed that gross profits hit £4 million with an operating loss before goodwill and depreciation of £22.8 million.

Much of the operating loss this has been spent on brand and technology investment, and also covers the start-up costs for European expansion. As of 31 July 2000, Gameplay had £47.8 million in the bank after recently raising £50 million in a secondary placing.

Gameplay also announced today that it has acquired techy-games outfit, Pixel Broadband Studios Ltd, from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc for £34.1 million in shares and warrants.

e-district.net plc has reported pre tax loss of £67,646 for the six months ended June 30 2000, the e-entertainment company reported today, compared to a pre-tax profit of £25,100 during the same period last year. Turnover jumped fourfold to £1.04 million. e-district now boasts 2.1 million registered users and currently serves 163 million pages a month.

Nutravida, a British health products site, has gone the way of Clickmango. The company is shutting down after failing to secure further financing.

Fibernet Group plc been awarded a telecoms licence by the French regulatory authority (ART) for the company's subsidiary, Fibernet SAS. The L33-1 licence authorises Fibernet to build and operate a national fibre optic network (TANet France) designed to provide managed network services within and between each licensed region. The Company is planning to establish 3,400 route kilometres of network and 85 Points of Presence in France by the end of 2001.

Mark Zaleski is to take up the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer at European e-auction house, QXL.com. Stan Laurent, currently Senior VP, saales and marketing for QXL, is to take up the new role of president, strategic development. ®
