Transition complete

James Wickes, co-founder and chief executive of hardware products distie Ideal Hardware, has resigned from the board of InterX (which was once upon a time the holding group for Ideal).

The move marks the completion of the transition of InterX from a IT hardware products distributor to a big-ticket software group. Philip Crawford, InterX CEO and former Oracle UK big cheese, now has a free hand to fill the board with software people capable of turning the flagship product Bladerunner into Broadvision-type sales success.

Wickes remains an InterX staffer, but for how long? People who are used to being CEOs don't tend to make for good employees.

InterX's turnover for the year was £4.03m, compared to £3.18 million for 1999. This represents a jump of 26.7 per cent, a relatively small increase which suggests either the company has had difficulty in finding new customers for Bladerunner or (more likely) it has found it difficult to scale up its roll-outs.

InterX made a pre-tax loss of £4.98m on ordinary activities for the year, and a whacking great loss £20.62 million in total. Of this, exceptional items and amortisation of goodwill accounted for £15.64 million . In 1999, InterX produced profits of £2.09 million - but that was down to the company's IT products distribution arm, disposed of earlier this year. ®
