Kingston Technology has started shipping DDR memory modules to its OEM customers for testing, in preparation for the market introduction of DDR technology during Q4 of 2000.

New server, workstation, desktop and mobile platforms should start to appear in Q4 of this year, utilising 200 MHz and 266MHz DDR DIMM memory modules which will provide substantially-increased performance over SDR PC133 systems.

"Kingston is investing in new CSP-capable manufacturing equipment to ensure that all manufacturing centres will be ready to build more synchronous, Rambus and DDR modules today while also being enabled for volume production of next-generation memory modules," said David Sun, co-founder, Kingston Technology.

Four new production lines have been added in the Americas manufacturing centre in Fountain Valley, California, along with another four in Kingston's Asia-Pacific manufacturing centre in Taiwan. Further expansion to the European Manufacturing centre in Dublin, Ireland, is planned for later this year.

The company has also initiated the development of a low-cost test solution for DDR modules to help cut costs associated with high volume module testing.

"Kingston Technology's collaboration with Intel in the development of a low-cost RIMM tester has met all our initial goals," said Ann Keefe, Kingston's sales director. "We are confident we can apply the lessons we've learned in developing a similar tester for DDR DIMM modules." ®
