Freeserve is to start offering its BT-enabled ADSL product early next month - eight weeks before BT claims it will be able to offer a comparable service.
FreeservePlus is available from September 4 and will cost £39.99 a month, plus a one-off fee of £150 for installation.
But in a fit of generosity, Britain's top ISP will also cough up £150,000 to fund the installation costs for 1,000 users as part of a marketing drive to promote the service.
The service will be available in a number of areas including Birmingham, London, Manchester, Cambridge, Coventry, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds and Milton Keynes.
It won't be available in the sticks.
Last month, Marc Deschamps, COO of Broadband at BTopenworld, said that the telco still hadn't got grips with the single user (USB) ADSL product and that it wouldn't be ready until October or November.
He said: "...we're nearly there with the single computer service, but not quite". ®
