Monitor maker Taxan is planning to set up shop as a PC manufacturer in the UK.

The Japanese giant has poached Paul Kinsler, former general manager at Mesh Computers, to head up the operation, The Register has learned.

Taxan currently runs a sales, marketing and support office in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Kinsler, who left London-based Mesh last month and was rumoured to be off to a Japanese rival, was today unable to comment on the appointment. He is due to start a new job - in an unnamed company - on September 1 after a holiday in Marbella.

Taxan itself was today keeping schtum on any PC manufacturing plans. "I know nothing about it whatsoever," said Keith Talbott, Taxan UK sales manager.

It will be an interesting combination: the Taxan brand is traditionally associated with high-end monitors on top of major vendors' PCs. Its market value is geared up for corporates.

Kinsler's role at Mesh put him primarily in the consumer home PC market.

It is not known whether Taxan will be making their own brand of computers or build-to-order white box machines. ®
