You see the funniest things from the train window.

Anyone familiar with the Thames Valley Business Park in Reading will know that Oracle has what can only be described as an impressive presence there. In all there's about six or seven aircraft-hangar sized buildings, confirming its status as one of the world's foremost hi-tech companies. What goes on inside said buildings is anyone's guess, though.

Naturally, with all those buildings, you're gonna need a lot of people. And faced with a shortage of human collateral what method of recruitment would you expect a major IT company to employ? Well, how about a large board, nailed up facing the nearby railway tracks that says come and work for Oracle.

Maybe the days of the IT recruitment Web site are numbered, maybe the future of IT is rooted firmly in the past - with wood and nails becoming the new stock in trade.

We also note that the three Oracle flags, blowing proudly in the Berkshire breeze, are aided in their performance by what can at best be described as artificial stiffeners. Well, let's face it, with the Microsoft building just a hop skip and a jump away, the last thing Oracle wants to become famous for is flaccid pole furniture. ®
