Star Trek megastar Leonard Nimoy is riding his success as the face to flog IT-related stuff and got himself a new ad contract.

This follows his work in the classic Time machine ads for Time Computers.

The former Mr Spock has signed up for a TV, radio, print and online ad campaign promoting US Internet venture Networds.

Hopefully the ageing Trekky will be getting big bucks for the gig, which uses the catchline: "Making the Internet human". "Networds are a logical and more human way to navigate the Web and a giant leap forward in making Internet navigation easier for all users," Nimoy spouted.

As for the US company, which has retained a low-profile despite flogging its Internet keywords business for four years, it is chuffed to have signed up this "cultural icon", and seems to believe his contribution will boost its profile no end.

"Leonard Nimoy is the ideal Netword spokesperson," Michael Wise, Netword CEO, gushes. "We are delighted to partner with a celebrity whose image is a direct reflection of what Networds provides users."

Let's just hope he isn't expected to sell his soul for this dotcom like his old colleague from the Starship Enterprise William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk.
Shatner is expected to sing for his supper and rap along to ads for online bartering business Priceline.com.
