A trawl through the usual suspects reveals plenty of news from Computex and review blitz on the Voodoo5 board.

Tom's Hardware Guide reports from the Computex 2000 exhibition in Taipei with a review of the new i815/Solano chipset from Intel, and gets in some extra digs in at Rambus along the way. In benchmark tests the new chipset compares favourably with the 440BX set, apart from its lower memory support. The official launch is on June 19.

At Sharky Extreme, the new Voodoo5 from 3dfx comes in second to NVIDIA's bGeForce2 GTS Hercules in benchmark tests. The testers used Quake III as their arena. On the high quality setting, the poor little Voodoo5 was beaten by a margin of between 19 and 41 per cent. Oops!

Hardware-one also got the two boards to square up and fight it out. Again the GeForce2 beat the Voodoo5 for speed, but the reviewers had kind words for the slower board. This review is 20 pages long, so be patient…

FrostyTech has been waxing lyrical about the Alpha PFH6035 processor cooler. The workmanship is applauded and if you've got the cash you'll never go back to 'shot from the die' generic coolers.

Also, check out the "cost is no object" dream system put together by Anandtech in its monthly buyers guide to high-end systems. For the CPU it went with a Dual Pentium III 866, and the videocard Anandtech really covets is the Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS 64MB. Total cost once it is all in? A whopping $13,000.
