Abit's Athlon mainboard gets raved on

The Duron is still getting the better of the Celeron it seems, but that battle is not the only thing on the agenda today.

But before we get to all that, BX Boards gets all impressed with the Athlon mainboard from Abit. Reviewer Andy Drake positively raves about it: "No other board comes close!" he says. It gets top marks for stability running normally and overclocked, and another big plus is getting ATA/100 RAID for free. It lost some points for its speed, but scored a very respectable four-and-a-half out of a possible five.

Ars Technica has updated its systems guide. God Box, Hot Rod or poor old Budget, it is all here. Whilst not being stupid with your cash, Ars admits its God Box is beyond the reach of mere mortals, but if you have $5000 to throw at a system, this could be the one you want.

The Celery 700 gets put through its paces at Sharky's. So, how did it stack up against the Duron? It costs the same, right down to the last dollar, so price won't separate them. Sharky thinks that the Celeron's biggest advantage is its flexibility, since it should work with any FC-PGA motherboard. However, despite scoring seven out of ten, the review still comes down on the side of the Duron, for now.

But what do you think? Frostytech is running a poll. Do you think that the Duron will kill Intel? So far it is fairly evenly split between the yes's and no's, and one in four reckon Intel will never die. Register your opinion. Be part of a democratic process - the chance arises so rarely. And while you are there, have a peek at their review of the Leufken GFD. If you have an Athlon, you need one. Or so they say...®
