Blueyonder punters have endured further network problems after someone cut a major cable on Friday.

The incident happened around Friday lunchtime. The cable was one of the main links between Croydon and Telehouse, the telecoms hub in central London.

A statement issued by Blueyonder on Friday read: "We have been informed by our network engineering department that there has been a fibre cable cut near Telehouse in London."

Traffic had to be routed through a backup while engineers tried to fix the problem.

Despite promises that it would be sorted by the end of the day it wasn't fixed until late Saturday evening - more than 36 hours after the incident took place.

Although the cable has now been spliced back together, it's still not known how the breakage happened.

It could have been an accident or it could have been sabotage. Who knows, it may have even been a poltergeist or some extraterrestrial force.

Perhaps it was disgruntled punter or someone who works for Telewest who's got a grudge against the company.

However, since no one at Telewest was available for comment, the rumour mill will continue to work overtime until someone can be bothered to explain what happened. ®
