An earthquake which measured 6.7 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan last night killing two people but largely leaving the infrastructure of the island intact.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in a remote region of the island, and happened around 2.30 AM.

The quake was followed, most of today, by heavy rain storms, giving rise to fears of landslides.

Out and about in central Taipei today, there were no signs of structural damage, but it has poured all day.

The Register felt the shock while we were sitting in a bar last night, with the waves lasting around four to five seconds. ®
