Stamp collecting more popular than Internet World

Philately crowds swamp Net venue

Internet World 2000 kicked off this morning in London but you could be forgiven for thinking the trade show has been hijacked.

Earls Court - once famous for major Pink Floyd gigs - is playing host to two shows today.

Britain's biggest Net bash is one... an event catering for stamp collectors is the other.

Is this some major philatelic jape? Holding an olde worlde snail mail convention adjacent to what is supposed to be a hip and happening event?

Worse still, the crowds queueing for the stamp gig were far bigger than the dribs and drabs waiting to get into Internet World.

Oh, and another thing - check out the marketing spin surrounding the event itself.

The front cover of the show programme reads: "Internet World 2000 - A Big Bang for Business."

And underneath it says in big bold letters: "This is the year."

This is the year for what? ®
